" We were forced to sign presidential election result sheets" - Atiku’s witness tells court

In a recent report, it was stated that the first witness for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in his petition against the election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Captain Joe Agada (retd), testified before the Presidential Election Petition Court.

He claimed that he and other agents of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were forced to sign the result sheets of the last presidential election in their separate polling units and at the state level. Agada also alleged that compromised electoral officers collaborated with agents of other political parties to manipulate ballot papers and result sheets. He further claimed that he witnessed instances where the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) was manipulated in favor of a particular party.

The other witnesses, Dr Solarin Sunday Adekunle and Barrister Uzoma Nkem Abonta, also alleged irregularities, discrepancies and non-compliance with election rules. Adekunle refused to sign the collated results in protest against electoral malpractices, while Abonta stated that the failure of INEC to electronically transmit election results led to a declaration that did not reflect the genuine wish of the people of Abia State. The hearings on the petition have been adjourned until June 2.
