Carjackers stab final year UNICAL student to death

The news of the death of Francis Atabi, a final year student of the University of Calabar who worked part-time as a Bolt driver, is deeply saddening.

At the Mary Slessor roundabout in Calabar, Cross River State, on the evening of May 26, 2023, two suspected carjackers whom Atabi had given a ride to tried to snatch his Toyota Corolla vehicle.

Atabi resisted, which angered the suspects, leading them to stab him multiple times and tie a rope around his neck. During the ensuing struggle, Atabi lost control of the car and hit a security man, who also died at the hospital where he was taken.

The State Police Command's spokesperson, SP Irene Ugbo, has confirmed the incident and stated that an investigation is underway. She assured the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice, and urged members of the society to be vigilant and take necessary precautions to protect themselves from criminal activities.

This is a tragic reminder of the need for greater security measures and awareness in our communities.
